Settled in the 1860's after the land wars, Pukekohe has a colourful history. Pukekohe soon developed to be one of the largest areas of market gardening in New Zealand, producing one-third of the nations vegetables. With the temperate climate and rich soils, Pukekohe is famous for export of onions and potatoes world-wide.
Pukekohe means 'Hill of the Kohekohe', New Zealand's native mahogany tree. Today, Pukekohe has become the regional centre for the Franklin District, with it's busy shopping centre, beautiful gardens and a wide variety of recreational facilities, the town has plenty to offer.
When visiting Pukekohe take a drive to the summit of Pukekohe Hill where a panoramic view of Franklin District can be seen. From this vantage point vistas north to Manukau Harbour and Auckland abound, while to the south Tuakau, and the mighty Waikato River winds its way to the Tasman sea.
As Franklin's largest town we can offer accommodation, restaurants and shopping within a five minute drive to the motorway, thirty minutes to Auckland International Airport and forty-five minutes to the centre of Auckland City.
